Summary
Indiana law bans most abortions in the state, allowing exceptions only in limited circumstances such as cases of rape, incest, lethal fetal anomaly, or when the pregnancy poses a serious threat to the mother’s life or health. The law also requires that any permitted abortions be performed in hospitals or hospital-owned surgical centers, effectively eliminating the licensing of standalone abortion clinics. In addition, it imposes criminal penalties on doctors who violate the law’s requirements.
